Sermon Notes
I.    The Stones                                           Luke 19:28-40

 A.    The Context

 1.   Two parables woven into one, taught at Jericho (vv. 11-27).

 2.   Two decisive insights for his listeners and disciples.

a. Those who hate and reject the king will be dealt with harshly.

b. The kingdom would not come all at once …. before the king returns, there are expectations for his servants.

B. The approach to Jerusalem.

1. The mysterious acquisition of the colt.

2. The declaration of Jesus as king by his disciples (Ps. 118:26).

3. No palms here in Luke …. just cloaks.

C. The presence of some Pharisees – not sure if they are from Galilee or Jerusalem.

1. They may have had his security in mind.

2. They may have feared the deterioration of their already tenuous relationship with the Romans.

3. The stones.

a. Hyperbole? Have you ever heard a stone talk or shout?

b. Romans 8 – “all of creation waits in eager expectation”.
